VAN NUYS FLIGHT SCHOOL: Instrument IFR Rating
Flight Training in Van Nuys, CA
Instrument (IFR) Rating Flight Training
Van Nuys Flight School Flying Lessons
The Instrument Rating adds significantly to the value of a Pilot Certificate by removing "bad weather" limitaions. Holders of the Rating are permitted to fly in virtually any weather conditions, limited only by their own judgement and the equipment installed in their aircraft.
Flight Experience: An applicant for an Instrument rating must have a minimum of 40 hours of "instrument" time and 50 hours of pilot-in-command cross-country time. 20 hours of the instrument time can be accomplished in an approved Ground Trainer (simulator).
Aircraft: The Instrument course is taught in Cessna/Piper aircraft and in Flight Simulators. Glass cockpit equipped aircraft are available as well. The Simulators are used extensively to speed training and reduce expense.
Van Nuys Airport: For the student working on the instrument rating, the Los Angeles area is an ideal training field. There are several airports within a 30 mile radius offering multiple IFR approaches, so the variety of training situations is exceptional. Students receive invaluable practice in a demanding ATC environment and graduate prepared to fly comfortably in any IFR airspace.
Syllabus: Our course of training provides for mastery of the necessary skills for the Instrument Rating in 40 to 55 hours of airplane and simulator time. The course is divided into three stages, with stage checks to assure that each level has been thoroughly taught.
